The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued 12 new Quality Control Orders (QCOs) in April 2026, adding more products to the mandatory certification list. If you import or manufacture any of these products, you must obtain BIS certification before selling in India. The government continues its aggressive expansion of mandatory BIS coverage, now covering over 870 products across 187+ QCOs.

Key Deadlines
For most products, the QCO provides a transition period of 3-6 months before enforcement begins. Existing stock can be sold during this window, but new imports and manufacturing must comply immediately after the deadline. Penalties for non-compliance include customs seizure, fines up to ₹5 lakh per violation, and potential imprisonment under the BIS Act 2016.
