Understanding IS numbers
What an IS number is
The identifier for a standard published by the Bureau of Indian Standards. It sets out the testing methods, quality parameters and safety requirements a product has to meet.
How it relates to certification
Your product is tested against the applicable standard. The lab checks conformance to the requirements in that standard, and the certificate is issued for that standard.
Why the version matters
Standards are revised from time to time, and where a record carries the year it is part of the number. 480 of these 688 do. The version that applies to your product is the one the order covering it names, so check that document rather than the number alone.
What the cost figure is
The cost shown against a standard is the range this database records across the products underneath it, from the lowest recorded band to the highest. It is indicative, for planning, not a BIS fee, and the components recorded on a product row do not sum to it.
